The nation will be introduced tonight to what I firmly believe is the best new mascot in sports, the Ballfrog. Rory McIlroy's Boston Common golf is the final team to appear in SoFi center for their debut match of the TGL season as they take on Tiger Woods' Jupiter Links GC, 0-1 on the season after their loss to LAGC in week two. The Ballfrog is a nod to the beloved Frog Pond in Boston Common, and apart from maybe NYGC's bluebird is the only discernible mascot for any of the six teams. Just look at that guy. The pinnacle of graphic design. Although the frog pond is now no longer an actual pond, the souls of Bostonian frogs past are preserved in the efforts of their newfound legacy in professional simulated golf.
This week's match is a bit of a curveball as they are playing on Monday at 6:30ET, likely to give the players time to travel back across the country for the Pebble Beach Pro-am this weekend. I expect Boston Common to bring some firepower in their debut as Rory, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott get to work on holes this week that put a premium on distance off the tee and accuracy in approach. Jupiter Links may get a spark out of the young Tom Kim replacing Max Homa this week, but the mistakes or lack thereof of Kevin Kisner will likely be the main decider in the match.
